Early Assurance Programs

These Early Assurance programs allow sophomores to apply to medical school and bypass the MCAT and regular application process. Students save the stress, time, and money required by applying at large. Princeton students are eligible for four Early Assurance programs, listed below from most to least restrictive.

These Early Assurance programs allow students to apply to medical school and bypass the MCAT and regular application process. Students save the stress, time, and money required by applying at large. Princeton students frequently apply to the first four Early Assurance programs listed below; others have been offered in the past, but with more specific requirements--we don't know of Princeton applicants who have participated in them, but we're happy to support students who do.

FlexMed: Icahn at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine

  • open to all sophomores at any college or university
  • designed to provide flexibility in the undergraduate curriculum in preparation for medical school
  • students apply directly to the program
  • application deadline: mid January 15 of sophomore year (transcripts can arrive later)

IDeA: Innovation and Design Application at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson

  • open to Princeton sophomores who are interested in Design Thinking
  • all majors considered; preference to engineering, architecture, and computer science
  • students apply directly to the program
  • application deadline: late January/early February of sophomore year

ACES: Academic Clinical Experience Summer Program at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School 

  • open to sophomores with an emphasis on those from economically- or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, including first-generation college-goers
  • Princeton students apply through Princeton HPA; finalists interview with the medical school
  • application deadline: late January of sophomore year

PASS: Penn Access Summer Scholars at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

  • open to sophomores from nine colleges and universities, including Princeton with an emphasis on recruiting an experientially diverse cohort of students who will be leaders in healthcare.
  • Princeton students apply through Princeton HPA; finalists interview with the medical school
  • application deadline: late January of sophomore year

SUNY Upstate Sophomore Early Assurance Program 

  • not accepting applications in 2024
  • minimum science and overall GPA of 3.5
  • must take MCAT and achieve a minimum 510 score in two attempts
  • application deadline: July 1

Zucker Pipeline Program at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell

  • open to first-year students at any college or university with an emphasis on those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, first-generation college goers, and from a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in medicine
  • US citizenship required
  • application deadline: April 1, 2024
