Consider a paid position that involves constant interaction with an attending orthopedic surgeon at the top-ranked hospital for orthopedics in the United States. The full-time position entails coordinating and executing various studies on knee surgery, focusing on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Additionally, this position includes assisting Dr. Marx in his office and seeing patients together, allowing one to learn about clinical decision making and electronic health records. There are also numerous opportunities to observe surgeries and to shadow patients for the duration of their care, from the initial consult visit to post-operative rehabilitation. Our department focuses on studying patient outcomes and related epidemiology in the field of sports medicine.
Responsibilities include:
- Patient screening and recruitment into clinical trials
- Creating and analyzing data collection instruments
- Patient follow-up
- Coordination with primary sites for multi-center studies
- Manuscript editing and preparation
- Writing and updating IRB protocols
- Assisting in the preparation of research presentations
- Assisting in the office with patient care
Specific duties vary a great deal depending on the research at hand and the current needs. The qualified applicant will have a Bachelor's Degree in arts or science (BA or BS), but most importantly, a strong interest in medicine and obtaining invaluable experience in clinical research.
