Care Team Assistant at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)

Feb. 18, 2025

The Care Team Assistant (CTA) Program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is hiring multiple full-time positions. We seek a minimum one-year commitment from new employees, making this an excellent opportunity for students applying to professional schools and seeking an engaging gap year experience.

Our team members are integrated into the hospital working as part of the inpatient team to increase the continuity of care for our patients while helping resident physicians to practice at the highest scope of their practice. In this position you will have the opportunity to...

  • Gain invaluable experience working in inpatient pediatrics units while building confidence working in the healthcare setting
  • Attend inpatient rounds and learn the basics of a patient presentation
  • Learn about different roles on the interdisciplinary care team
  • Develop an understanding of hospital flow from patient admission to discharge
  • Interact directly with providers and families to increase the quality of patient care both during and after hospitalization
  • Work on Quality Improvement (QI) projects with the opportunity to be included on publications
  • Attend resident teaching and hospital grand rounds
  • Participate in CTA-tailored learning experiences and lectures including topics such as professional school interview preparation, high quality discharges, and social determinants of health

Many of our program’s alumni have cited their experience as a CTA as a leading factor in their success in professional school and career development...

“The CTA role was an experience like no other. I truly mean it when I say I can't imagine a growth-year job that taught me more skills, through the good times and also through the more frustrating moments that came with being a CTA sometimes. When I reflect on my time as a CTA, I felt that I learned a lot of medicine but I also learned a lot of other skills that you need to work in healthcare; mainly, patience, resilience, and perseverance.”

“Overall, I feel the CTA program is what most prepared me for my clinical rotations. Obviously, my schooling gave me a good educational background, but I felt more prepared than most of my classmates during inpatient rotations due to my level of experience working in a hospital and ICU setting. I understood the typical workflow, I felt confident speaking to attendings, I was comfortable talking to patients and families. Overall, I truly value my time as a CTA. I loved that job so much I continued to work nights while in PA school.”
