Job Description
Advances in science and technology are opening new frontiers in cancer research, particularly in the identification of cancer-related genes. Despite these breakthroughs, ensuring equitable access to genetic testing remains a critical challenge. Dr. Melissa Frey’s clinical laboratory is dedicated to improving access to genetic testing and cancer prevention through innovative research, patient-centered care, and cutting-edge technology.
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Assistant Research Coordinator in the clinical research department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects focused on cancer genetics while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic, patient-facing research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Enrollment: Engage with patients in-person across multiple locations (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn) to enroll them in clinical research studies.
- Research Administration: Manage submissions to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), oversee communication with the IRB, and assist with data entry and administrative research tasks.
- Grant and Manuscript Support: Assist in grant preparation and submission, as well as manuscript preparation and editing for publication.
- Shadowing & Clinical Exposure: Spend time shadowing Dr. Melissa Frey, a surgeon and clinician. In-person attendance at weekly clinics to enroll patients and participate in the care of patients with cancer-associated genetic mutations.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are essential for interacting with patients, research teams, and external collaborators.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in Biology or Medicine: A long-term interest in pursuing a career in medicine, clinical research, or biological sciences is strongly preferred.
- Commitment: This position requires a two-year commitment.
