Clinical Research Coordinator Position at the Harris Orthopaedics Laboratory (Boston, MA)

General Overview
The pioneering efforts of the Harris Orthopaedics Laboratory (HOL) have positively impacted the quality of life of millions
of patients through innovation and evidence-based medicine since its inception in 1969. The mission of the laboratory is to
improve patient outcomes through materials science and clinical research with an emphasis on total hip and knee
replacement surgery. The HOL is part of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
A full-time Clinical Study Coordinator I position will be available starting in June 2019. The Clinical Research
Coordinator will primarily work with and develop a sophisticated data registry system to capture all arthroplasty and
orthopaedic trauma surgeries across all Partners’ Healthcare-affiliated hospitals. Partners Healthcare is the largest
healthcare provider in Massachusetts.

The study coordinator will also facilitate the clinical follow-up of arthroplasty patients in several international, multicenter
studies. There will be opportunities for mentorship by orthopaedic surgeons, shadowing in the operating room and
clinic, as well as authorship. Research coordinators may also have several opportunities to present their findings at
national and international conferences. All previous research coordinators have gone on to attend medical school or to
pursue a graduate degree related to medical research.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
• Coordinating data collection with participating clinics and hospitals worldwide
• Monitoring quality of study data and generating study progress reports
• Contributing to study design and development
• Conducting statistical analyses
• Assisting in the preparation of research documents, presentations, manuscripts, and journal articles
• Using specialized equipment to perform radiographic examinations on study participants
• Conducting radiographic analysis to measure implant positioning and fixation

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (pre-med track) with strong academic performance (minimum 3.5 GPA is
preferred). The ideal candidate will also have had prior research and/or clinical experience. Completion of undergraduate
coursework in statistics and computer science (Python and/or SQL) is preferred. Preference will be given to a candidate
planning to matriculate at medical school in 2021.
Robust written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are all expected.
Independence, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn new skills are also vital for succeeding in this position.
