Question of the Week: Timing Premed stats and English

Jan. 23, 2025

When to take premed stats and English?

The timing of the science prerequisites seems more straightforward: you want to take them before you take the MCAT, which you need to do by the time you're applying. For statistics and English, which are required by many schools, there's less time pressure. You should try to have them completed by the spring of your application year, but you don't necessarily have to have them done before you apply.

Many premeds take statistics after they've narrowed down their major. Different majors require different stats courses, so best to take it once you know which one you might need! Many premeds take the English requirement junior spring or senior year, but it can be added in wherever you find space and course offerings that appeal to you.
