Q: My initial summer internship plans fell through and I'm starting to worry that I won't have anything lined up for the summer. What are my options?
A: It's that time of year when you may be hearing from peers about the awesome internships they've secured or the great summer plans they have in place. If you don't have your summer figured out yet, that's okay! There is still time to position yourself for a tremendously meaningful summer. - Princeton Internships in Civic Service (PICS) just opened a second round of applications that will run until March 7. Students who have already applied to PICS as well as students who have not yet applied are eligible for the second round.
- Internships in Global Health have also opened a second round of applications with a deadline of March 14.
- Interested in conducting research with a faculty member? The Office of Undergraduate Research Student Initiated Program (OurSIP) is a great opportunity to do just that. The preferred deadline is coming up quickly on February 27, but they'll be reviewing applications until April 3 or until funds run out.

Finally, it may be a good time to think of a plan if all internships fall through. Want to get some shadowing experience? You can do so without an application-based internship. Have a desire to impact a community? Look into volunteering a few hours of your time each week at a local community center whose mission resonates with you. This "patchwork" summer can be just as if not more fulfilling than a summer involving a structured internship. Planning one can also demonstrate initiative and creativity.
