Question of the Week: Summer Opportunity Brainstorming

Feb. 25, 2022

Q: My initial summer internship plans fell through and I'm starting to worry that I won't have anything lined up for the summer. What are my options?

A: It's that time of year when you may be hearing from peers about the awesome internships they've secured or the great summer plans they have in place. If you don't have your summer figured out yet, that's okay! There is still time to position yourself for a tremendously meaningful summer. Our HPA Adviser Sachiko Datta made a video about it called Great Summer Opportunities Remain - click on the link or the image to view it (or click through the slides)! Some highlights:

Finally, it may be a good time to think of a plan if all internships fall through. Want to get some shadowing experience? You can do so without an application-based internship. Have a desire to impact a community? Look into volunteering a few hours of your time each week at a local community center whose mission resonates with you. This "patchwork" summer can be just as if not more fulfilling than a summer involving a structured internship. Planning one can also demonstrate initiative and creativity. We're happy to help with planning and the video below has more details and resources on how.

Good luck and make an appointment with an HPA adviser if you need some support!
