Question of the Week: Choosing a Postbac Program

Oct. 4, 2024

I’m researching postbac record enhancer programs and I can’t decide which ones to apply to. What factors do students usually consider?

There are numerous options to consider—undergraduate vs. graduate programs, full-time vs. part-time, location, type of coursework, and cost. Ultimately, the key factor is choosing a program that will facilitate your academic success and prove to medical schools that you’re prepared for the rigorous science curriculum. Location is often the first factor—living in an area you can afford, where you have a strong support network, can help facilitate that success. Or, if you have a full-time job and plan to take courses part-time, your job may dictate your options. For students with a science GPA well below a 3.0, undergrad courses are beneficial since some medical schools will filter out applicants whose GPAs fall far below this benchmark. Students with a higher GPA or sub-3.0 with a strong upward trajectory, there are undergraduate and graduate program options. Use our postbac guide and list of programs to begin your research and come meet with us as you compile your list.
