APSA | Virtual Summer Research Program - Invitation for Mentees

April 1, 2022

The American Physician Scientist Association (APSA) would like to extend an invitation to apply for the Virtual Summer Research Program (VSRP). Our mission is to support individuals underrepresented in science and medicine (those identifying as racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+, low-income, first-generation college experience, and/or disabled) who struggle to find a summer experience due to socio-economic inequity. The goal of VSRP is to address the gap of underrepresented groups in the physician-scientist profession by providing mentorship, community, resources, and research opportunities.

Students will

  • complete an 8-week-long virtual research project (June 13 - Aug 5, 20 hours per week)
  • engage with physician-scientist leaders through a weekly mentorship speaker series
  • connect with members of biomedical student organizations
  • attend weekly journal club meetings
  • present a poster at regional APSA conferences at the conclusion of the program
  • form longitudinal mentorship relationships and a network of supportive like-minded peers

Applications for mentees and mentors are open now and due May 1, 2022 at 11:59 pm EST

To support you as you prepare your application, we highly encourage you to watch the “What it means to be a physician-scientist” session recording.

APSA also offers Interactive Series throughout the year. Check out HERE for more!

Please note that a match cannot be guaranteed due to the limited number of spots that are available. Furthermore, your work is likely to be on a volunteer basis as compensation is not a requirement for any given research opportunity.
