The Doctor is In is the HPA alumni health professional speaker series. Alumni guests return to campus to talk about their professional lives and offer advice to prehealth students.

About our guest

Dr. Abbate is a board certified psychiatrist licensed in the states of New Jersey and New York.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University in 1995 with a major in Molecular Biology.  She went on to get her Medical Degree at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1999, followed by her residency in General Psychiatry at SUNY at Buffalo in 2003, where she was Chief Resident.  As a resident, she was selected to be a part of the APA/GlaxoSmithKline Fellowship program with a focus on forensic psychiatry.  

Her current private psychiatric practice is exclusively telemedicine based since 2018.  Her practice is focused on taking care of adults who suffer from depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and life transition issues.

Dr. Abbate currently lives in New Jersey, with her husband and two children. Volunteering is a very important part of her life and she spends some of her free time weekly helping hospice patients. She also volunteers for the Princeton Club of Northwestern NJ, helping welcome new admitted students and plan events for local alumni.
