As the Assistant Director of HPA, Sherise Smith works with all undergraduate students and alumni as they navigate their prehealth pursuits. From exploring health careers to completing the application for their desired health professional program, Sherise is committed to supporting students using a holistic, developmental approach.
Sherise earned a BA in psychology from Loyola College in Maryland (now renamed Loyola University), and earned a MA in Child Development with a focus on adolescent social and personal development from Tufts University. After graduating, she worked for several years as a mental health counselor at various hospitals and residential treatment centers in Boston and New York, specializing in adults with a dual diagnosis (MICA: mental illness and chemical addiction). Realizing that she truly enjoys helping emerging adults navigate their personal, academic, and professional journeys, Sherise took a chance and began working in higher education as an academic adviser. Since then, she has worked at universities in Florida, Georgia, and her home state of New York, specializing in prehealth advising and serving as the director of a post-baccalaureate prehealth program.
In her free time, Sherise loves to read, travel, cook, dance, and go to the movies. Feel free to stop by to chat!
