What advice would you give to a first- or second-year prehealth student athlete? Take advantage of your summers and embrace your unique pre-medical journey! Start early with reaching out to campus resources (PHAs, McGraw, etc) and your upper classmen peers pursuing the fields you’re interested in. Engaging with these resources early not only facilitates the academic transition, but also to plan ahead and create space for academic exploration and pursuit of other interests (arts, minors/certificates, etc)!
Summer 2024 planned activities: This summer I participated in the Coach for College Program with PVC, where I taught biology, baseball, and life skills to middle/high school aged students in rural Vietnam. Before this trip, I worked the summer camp at my former gymnastics gym for elementary aged kids. Afterwards, I plan to shadow a medical professional or gain clinical hours before returning to help with freshman orientation as a Community Action Leader.
